Six articles about life in the 55th Va., written and illustrated by Allen Redwood of Co. C. Five appeared in Scribner's Monthly between 1878 and 1881 and the sixth in the February 1886 issue of Century Magazine. (On the site, all the articles are listed under Century Magazine, the title adopted by Scribner's Monthly after 1881.) The articles can also be accessed at the on-line library of Cornell University (see below).

Amongst many items of Civil War interest, this library has an accessible version of “The War of the Rebellion: a Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies”. There are several versions of this essential primary source available on-line, however, this one has effective search mechanism.

Historic resource and meeting place in Essex County. The Museum also has a shop. Many of the 55th Va. came from the county. Essex and its county seat Tappahannock lie on the beautiful Rappahannock River in Virginia's Middle Peninsula. The Essex County Museum, founded in 1996, and the Essex County Historical Society joined forces in 2006 to celebrate the heritage of the town, county, river and its people. Exhibits include prehistoric through modern displays of life in Essex.
